Choosing A Deadbolt.
Sounds simple right? Consumers have many
choices however when choosing a deadbolt for their home. You have single
cylinder, double cylinder, keyless, electronic etc. Below you will find a
description of the various deadbolts to help you choose.
Single Cylinder Deadbolts
Single cylinder deadbolts are the most common
deadbolt design. They have a key cylinder on one side and a knob on the
other side to lock and unlock it. They will fill the needs of most people.
They may not be the best choice if you have a door with windows however.
Double Cylinder Deadbolts
Double cylinder deadbolts have a key cylinder
on both sides of the lock. They are good for homes where you have windows
in the door or next to it. It would prevent a thief from breaking the
glass and reaching through to unlock it. They do have the drawback of
making it difficult to get out in an emergency. You should check with
local building codes to see if they are allowed however.
Keyless Deadbolts
Keyless deadbolts are operated by a remote
control. They can be helpful if you come home with groceries or your hands
full and can't fumble with keys. Many of them come with technology which
randomly changes the remote frequency and can be programmed to
automatically lock. You can even by a deadbolt that will recognize your
fingerprint. |
